In a pioneering move towards sustainability, Bournemouth School For Girls (BSG) has announced plans to partner with ProStar Energy Ltd for the installation of state-of-the-art commercial solar panels. This initiative underscores BSG’s commitment to reducing environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency through renewable energy solutions.
The project, spearheaded by ProStar Energy Ltd, will see the installation of a bespoke solar panel system featuring 230 x 550 W panels, with a total capacity of 126 kWp. Complemented by advanced Growatt inverters totaling 110 kW, the system is expected to generate approximately 392 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually.

The decision to adopt solar energy comes as part of BSG’s broader strategy to reduce operational costs and carbon footprint. With an estimated annual savings of £28,244 on electricity bills, the school anticipates a rapid payback period of just 2 years and 5 months, demonstrating the financial viability of the project with an impressive Return on Investment (ROI) of 45.1%.
Moreover, the solar panel installation is projected to offset 27 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually, equivalent to planting over 5100 trees or removing more than 800,000 kilometers of car travel from the roads each year. This environmental benefit underscores BSG’s proactive approach to environmental stewardship and community responsibility.
