Who Can Apply?
The grant is available to: Farmers and horticultural businesses based in England Both landowning and tenant farmers (with the appropriate permissions) Agricultural contractors are eligible for some productivity grants but unfortunately not for solar PV funding under this scheme.
How Much Funding is Available?
The minimum grant available for solar PV projects is £15,000, which typically represents 25% of a £60,000 project. The maximum grant per business for solar installations is £100,000.
If you plan to apply for other farm productivity enhancements—such as robotics or LED lighting—those are funded separately, with a combined funding cap of £500,000 across all projects.
It's important to know that while the grant covers a portion of the project cost, the remaining balance must be funded independently, whether through loans, overdrafts, or qualifying schemes like the Basic Payment Scheme or Countryside Stewardship. However, other public funding sources cannot be combined with this grant.
How to Apply: Two-Stage Process
Stage 1 – Online Eligibility Checker
Complete the RPA’s online checker to confirm your eligibility and receive a preliminary score. Only top-ranking projects will be invited to submit a full application.
Stage 2 – Full Application
If shortlisted, you’ll be assigned a project number and invited to submit a comprehensive proposal. The RPA will then assess the application and award funding to successful candidates.
Deadline: Full applications must be submitted by 11.59pm on 31 July 2025, so it’s crucial to get started as soon as possible.
